Mini Longhorns
Miniature Texas Longhorns are just smaller versions of the larger Standard variety. The maximum hip height for animals to be exhibited as Minis is 45" for females, 48" for bulls and 50" for steers. If an animal grows over this maximum height they may still keep their Miniature registration papers and can be used as breeding stock, they are just not eligible to show. Our goal is to breed functional animals with all the traits we love about the Standard cattle, just in a smaller size. Due to the health issues inherent in micro-mini cattle (under 36" at the hip) we do not breed for micro-mini sized animals. Animals with the dwarfism gene are not eligible for registration according to the TLBAA bylaws. The dwarfism gene has not been reported in any of the Standard lines of Texas Longhorn Cattle, so Chondrodysplasia (Chondro or CH) dwarfism is evidence of possible impure genetics.
